HALF DAY PHATOK HISTORICAL CAVE & FARM TOUR / HK-NDCT- GL 1049

This is an easy walking tour suitable for all ages and great if you have limited time one morning or afternoon in the heart of Nong Khiaw.

We will have a short tuk tuk ride and walk to caves that were used by the Laos communist party during the Second Indochina War to shelter from bombs dropped in the area.

The guide will walk you through the rice fields that sustain the local families working their farms and tending their animals in a beautiful valley surrounded by mountains. We will have lunch in a magnificent forest hut before trekking out.

Itinerary

PHATHOK HISTORICAL CAVE AND FARM TOUR (SNACK)

Be ready to get picked up at 8.30am from your Guesthouse and driven by tuk tuk to discover the Phatok Caves about 5 minutes away.

It is an easy walk up concrete stairs where you will be guided around the largest cave and then walk 10 minutes along a small trail to the second cave.

After the caves, we will walk along the road for 10 minutes to start our farm tour. After crossing a stream, for the next hour, we will walk along small trails crossing through rice paddy fields in a beautiful valley surrounded by mountains. The walk is flat and not challenging. We will see many farm animals and local people working their farms.

We will cross a number bamboo bridges as we walk through the forest to a stunning hut where we will have a snack before trekking out. When we arrive at the main road a tuk tuk will take us back to our Guesthouse.

PREPARATION:

Trekking sandals or even flip flops are fine for this trip (they may get wet). The trekking will be easy and the main thing to bring is your curiosity (ask the guide any questions you might have).

Bring a torch or headlamp for the cave if you have one (optional).

Bring sun protection for the farm walk and a rain coat if wet.
