PAKBENG RIVER CRUISE & ELEPHANT SANCTUARY (3 Days, 2 Nights) GL0311

3-day, 2-nights driving to Pakbeng through the mountain ranges to Pakbeng, with a wonderful visit to an Elephant Sanctuary, here you will learn how the elephants have been rescued and are protected the a enchanting river cruise downstream return to Luang Prabang.

Pakbeng is a small village in Laos, on the Mekong River about halfway between the Thai border at Huay Xai and Luang Prabang, Laos. Pak Beng is connected by a sealed road with Oudomxai along the Nam Beng River.

Returning to Luang Prabang on a luxury river cruise boat, you will visit Ban Xang Hai (Lao Whisky making village). Ban Xang Hai is famous for its Lao Lao (distilled rice whisky); here, you can try before you buy. A variety of handicrafts are also for sale here. Getting there, the village, 29 km north of Luang Prabang, a boat ride to Tam Ting (Pak Ou caves). Here you will walk the narrow footpath-streets behind the very attractive wat, featuring weavers' looms, colourful fabric stalls and a few stills producing the wide range of liquors sold.

After head Pak Ou cave where the Nam Ou (Ou River) and Mekong River meet at Ban Pak Ou, two famous caves in the limestone cliff are crammed with myriad Buddha images.

In the lower cave a photogenic group of Buddhas are silhouetted against the stunning riverine backdrop. The upper cave is a five-minute climb up steps, you'll need a torch from 50m into the rock face.

A minivan picks the guests up between 7:30 am and 8:00 am in Luang Prabang and reaches Pakbeng around 12:30 pm.

12:30pm:

Lunch and could enjoy your afternoon in this quiet city surrounded by nature

Day 2:

Visit to the Mekong Elephant Park, then a half day trek in the Pakbeng region.
Easy to medium level of trekking or walking in villages, you could discover the area at your own pace.

Day 3: Pakbeng-Luang Prabang

8:00am:

Board the river boat leaving from Pakbeng.

The boat departs for a day of impressive nature landscapes all along the river. 2 stops are planned during the afternoon.

A guiding visit of the Pak Ou Caves (Tham Ting) and its thousands of Buddha images

Visit Ban Xang Hai, a Lao Lao whisky village

MEETING TIMES:

The pick-up tour is ensured between 7:00 am and 7:30 am (downtown of Luang Prabang). Hence, we ask to be ready at 7:00 am.

  • The guests must choose between 2 room types at the hotels

  • In Pakbeng, the boat’s departure is scheduled at 8:00 am. Hence, we ask to be at the Pakbeng pier at 7:45 am to ensure a departure on time. Hotel can provide the drop off
  • Lunch on board, water, coffee, tea and fruits are included
  • From October to February, it can get cold during the tour. We advise to bring a jacket
  • It is possible to leave luggage and suitcase on the boat during the visits
  • In case of food restriction, allergy… we can adapt the dishes on board
