NONG KHIAW HOMESTAY & JUNGLE TREK TO WATERFALL (2 Days, 1 Night) GL0118

2-day, 1-night Homestay with Trekking and visits to waterfalls including kayaking and spending a night with a Khmu family homestay.

The Khmu settled in present-day Laos several thousands of years ago and are one of the most populous ethnic groups in Laos.

They are part of the Mon-Khmer branch of the Austro-Asiatic linguistic family. The Khmu are divided into many sub-groups including the Khmu Lue, the Kwaen, the Rok, and the Ou, with the majority of Khmu in Luang Namtha being the Kwaen or the Rok. Like many of the ethnic groups in Northern Laos, the Khmu are not Buddhist, but practice their own form of animism (spirit worship).

During this package you will spend a small time on a river cruise and trekking through wonderful mountainous scenery.

The English-speaking guide will take care of you and ensure you; your family or group have a wonderful and carefree experience.

Itinerary

Day 1: Boat cruise, trek to waterfall & home stay

An adventure waiting for you, after been picked up from your accommodation at 8:30am, you will board a river boat for the cruise up to a small village

You will then trek to the famous 100 Waterfalls, walking through and across small streams and rice paddies.

After a few hours you will arrive at the waterfall, having passed through verdant green jungle and hearing the constant sound of water cascading. At the waterfalls you will have plenty of time to enjoy a swim or just relaxing in the cool water.

At the waterfalls a picnic lunch, local style will be served. When lunch is complete we will hike back down the valley. This part of the trek will provide a panoramic view of the Nam Ou River Valley.

Return to Nong Khiaw for the final 2 hours by boat and trekking to the Khmu village where you’ll be spend the night with a local family and learning about the distinct Khmu language and culture.

Day 2: Mountain & village trek

After breakfast with a local family and saying goodbye, we’ll head out for a 4 hours trek through the jungle, between limestone karsts, picturesque mountain landscapes and agricultural fields.

Upon arriving at the Nam Ou riverbank, you’ll have lunch at a small village before crossing the river for another hour trek to the beautiful Mock Waterfall.

The falls are especially refreshing and you’re encouraged to swim or just sit by the falls.

The last leg of the trip will be a return to a kayak for the trip back to Nong Khiaw and your accommodation.
