Itinerary

DAY 01 BIKING ALONG THE NAM OU RIVER: LUANG PRABANG TO HMONG VILLAGE (L/D)

Meet your Tiger Trail guide in Luang Prabang at our Tiger Trail office where we’ll get fitted on quality mountain bikes.

Today we’ll set out on an 81 Km scenic bike ride along the Nam Ou River to a Khmu village homestay.

Guests should be medium to strong riders comfortable on varied smooth and hill riding that goes through fantastic river and mountain landscape.

You’ll have dinner and overnight at a homestay in a Hmong village and have a chance to explore local village life while relaxing after a good day biking through stunning Lao countryside.

DAY 02BIKING ALONG THE NAM OU RIVER: HMONG VILLAGE TO NONG KHIAW (B/L/D)

After breakfast in the village, depart for our second day of biking 61 Km to Nong Khiaw.

Arrive in Nong Khiaw in the afternoon and have time to explore this favorite of remote locations in Laos.

Your guide will show you around and take you to sample some local food for dinner.

You’ll overnight in the beautiful Nong Khiaw Riverside Lodge located in the banks of the Nam Ou River surrounded by jungle-covered mountains.

DAY 03 NAM OU RIVER BOAT, TREKKING, CAVE, AND OVERNIGHT IN TRANQUIL MUANG NGOI (B/L)

Enjoy an easy morning and breakfast at the Lodge before embarking on a late-morning long-tail boat ride upriver.

It's 19 Km from Nong Khiaw to Muang Ngoi through jungle-covered mountains for which Nong Khiaw Province has become famous.

Muang Ngoi is a must see in the area and you'll have plenty of time to explore the small riverside town.

Your guide will take you on a hike through a valley to a local cave and visit villages.

Muang Ngoi is known for its remoteness and is nestled amongst mountains on every horizon.

You’ll want to take it easy, taking in the serene landscape before tomorrow’s full active day.

Overnight in Lattanavongsa guesthouse.

DAY 04 MORNING RIVER BOAT, KAYAKING, 100 WATERFALL TREK, AND RIVERSIDE HOMESTAY (B/L/D)

Grab your gear and get ready for an early start as we set out on a full day of active adventure.

Begin with a private return boat ride from Muang Ngoi to Nong Khiaw where our kayaks will be waiting.

Kayak the Ou River on calm waters through unforgettable landscape 14 Km to a riverside Khmu village where we’ll be spending the night.

Drop your bags there and set out on the famous 100 Waterfall tour discovered by Tiger Trail.

You’ll want to bring shoes that can get wet as we’ll be hiking up and through the waterfall itself as we ascend the many waterfalls that give this waterfall its name.

Return from the day of adventure and activities to the riverside village for a cultural immersion homestay.

Dinner will be prepared by and enjoyed with your guide as you take time to experience local life in mountain villages.

Overnight in a riverside Khmu village homestay.

DAY 05 KAYAKING, EXPLORE PAK OU CAVE AND THE WHISKEY VILLAGE, LUANG PRABANG RETURN (B/L)

Rise in the morning hours for our final day of kayaking. We kayak 1.5 hours down a beautiful stretch of the Nam Ou River. Along the way, we will stop to explore a Khmu village of about 50 families on the river banks.

The water along this stretch is calm and the scenery is jungle-covered mountains.

For this stretch, a backup boat will join us so that you can paddle the full or any portion of the 23 km that you like.

Our truck will meet and take us to visit the famous Pak Ou Cave where the Nam Ou and Mekong Rivers converge.

We’ll have lunch in a restaurant with a spectacular view of the rivers and cave and then have plenty of time to explore.

On from the Pak Ou Cave, we’ll stop to visit Ban Xiang Hai, popularly known as the “Whiskey Village” for the Lao Lao rice whiskey its families traditionally make, in addition to many various local crafts which you may browse.

Board our truck again for the final drive along the Mekong River as we return late afternoon to Luang Prabang.

Note: You may store your main luggage at our Partners main office for the duration of the tour.

You’ll need only to take the gear and clothing you’ll need on this 5 day adventure.

There is a gear change possible on Day 2 as our truck transports kayaks to Nong Khiaw and returns the bikes.  You may leave equipment and clothes in Luang Prabang to be transported to you on Day 2, and have anything delivered to Luang Prabang with the truck to be safely stored for your return.  Travel light; enjoy your trip!
