Enjoy this historical and cultural Province exploring the damage from the Vietnam War to the French area occupation, the province is full of life and its people have been doing the same for the past few hundred years.

Visit Wat Pai, with its Buddha Statue untouched by the bombing though the building has remnants of shrapnel, this was the capital for the Royal seat of Phuan Kingdom in the 14th Century, then followed by the French who established their capital during their oppression!

You will visit the village of the noddle makers where they prepare their daily noodles.

More than 90 jar sites have been identified in Xiengkhouang Province. Each site has from one to 400 stone jars.

The jars vary in height and diameter between 1 m and 3 m and are all Hewn from rock

Visit Plain of Jars 2 and 3

Jar Site 2 features two clusters of jars. Most visitors go first to the cluster on the left after you climb over the stile.

There are stone steps leading up from the path into a wooded area on top of a hill where the jars are located

It is also possible to hike from jars 2 site to jars site 3 also recommended to use a guide while doing the hike

Old Capital Wat Pia Wat Statue

Once the Royal seat of Phuan Kingdom in the 14th century, and more recently the provincial capital during French colonial times, prosperous Muang Khoun was renowned for its lavish stupas and temples before suffering a series of attacks.

That Foun the Stupa

That Foun was built in 1576 and housed a treasure trove until those pesky Chinese invaders burrowed in and plundered it. It was rebuilt after the war .

French Ruins

Ruins of French hospital in Muang Khoun, former capital of Xieng Khuang province, destroyed by US bombing in the late 1960s.

The Noodle Village

While on the road to Muang Khoun we have a stop at the noodle village , as the villagers prepare their daily portion of fresh noodles ,they will show you the process of making them, very cultural and a daily way of life!
