A 2-day, 1-night river cruise and Lao cooking class. Starting from Huay Xay you will finish in the UNESCO town of Luang Prabang.

You will stay overnight in a transit town called Pakbeng, very peaceful, surrounded by mountains and when the moon is out lights the Mighty Mekong River.

During the first day cruise, you will be taught how to cook Lao food in preparation for your lunch.

Itinerary

Day 1: Houy Xai to Pakbeng

Meet at the Huay Xai piuer or be collected from your hotel where you will board our private boat to begin your two-day trip down the Mekong River.

Along the way you will see children swimming and splashing in the Mekong River, water buffaloes bathing, and all manner of boats used for traveling up and down the river.

The Mekong River is the longest river in Southeast Asia, traveling through six countries from the Himalaya Mountains to the South China Sea, a journey of more than 4800 kilometers, after the Amazon River in South America, it is the longest river on the planet

On the river cruise in the afternoon, you will have a Lao cooking class from a Lao chef, especially trained in the preparation of traditional Lao dishes.

The chef and tour guide will explain how to cook the specific dishes, preparing your own Lao lunch.

In the late afternoon/ early evening you will arrive in the town of Pakbeng. After transferring you to the hotel you can freshen up after we will serve you diner. Then you will have some free time to explore this small transit town, which features a few cafes and restaurants in addition a few small family run bars,

Day 2: Pakbeng to Luang Prabang

Wake up early in the morning enjoy your own coffee, tea and breakfast in this unique setting before continuing the cruise down the river to Luang Prabang.

The trip will take about 6 hours, along the way, you will stop at Pak Ou Cave, also known as Buddha Cave (Tham Thing) and home to more than 4000 Buddha images and statues. It’s a fascinating site built into the cliffs above the river.

After the cave visit, you’ll return to the cruise boat and proceed to Luang Prabang. Expect to arrive late afternoon, just in time for a great sunset welcome.
